Miches marches to save its rivers and beaches

MICHES. - Hundreds of students today marched the town’s main streets to demand that the Environment and Natural Resources Ministry put a stop to the uncontrolled exploitation of the rivers and beaches, where people and dump-truck owners extract materials.
The activity began in the school Padre Daniel and concluded in the local park, with the support of social, athletic, cultural, religious, union, commerce, farmers and professionals organizations, who carried signs against the activity.
Among the rivers where materials are extracted are the La Yeguada, Cuarón, Jovero, El Cedro and Jayán, and the beaches Costa Esmeralda, El Morro and Playa Arriba.
The march’s organizers accused Environment Ministry officials of being “accomplices” of those who are exterminating the rivers and beaches, by unscrupulously extracting sand and gravel, materials they affirm are sold by hardware stores and to construction companies, regardless of the damage.
